Lighthouse at the Edge of the World

Although snowfall is not a regular occurrence, here on the Loop Head Peninsula, when it does come, it transforms what is an already truly wonderful place of beauty into something completely extraordinary. There is stillness here in the snow, like at no other time; something that, on the edge of the world, with the waves of the Atlantic enveloping you, is a rarity. Kaye Maahs, a superbly competent artist and no stranger to being chosen to partake in exhibitions such as the annual RHA exhibition and others of note, is a lover of the West of Ireland and just adores how nature and man-made things can co-exist so perfectly. She highlights this in her paintings of lighthouses, industrial chimneys, wires, sheds, etc. Her ability here, to create snowdrifts with shadows and a nod to the lighthouse at the end, is just spectacular.
Bigger than some of her previous work, this painting is 60cm x 90cm and left unframed (with a deep canvas) this piece is a truly stand out one.
