The Genius of Trees

Carmel has always placed a huge emphasis on nature across all areas of her work. This particular painting, which is an oil on paper original artwork, is called the Genius of Trees – celebrating the ingenious activity of trees to absorb carbon dioxide and generate oxygen. Carmel was brought up on Loop Head in West County Clare where a wild exposure to the Atlantic Ocean meant that trees didn’t grow too prominently but she was fascinated by them. Her studio in Ennis is surrounded by trees and indeed she was also inspired by a recent visit to the Bamboo Garden at Claude Monet’s house in 2019.
