The evening light fades late during the summer months in Kilkee. If the tide is right, teenagers gather on the pier for their final swim of the day. This image by artist Ruth Wood, depicts that final shaft of sunshine hitting the pier and throwing shadows around the bay.

“In this series of paintings, I explore the west Clare landmarks of Georges Head, the Pollock holes, the west End and the Pier of Kilkee. With the second lockdown, my Creative Facilitation work came to an abrupt end. Luckily, as a painter I have the pleasure of living in a geographical locality that is the gift that keeps on giving. My most recent work explores how the weather, the season and even the time of day effects the look of buildings and rock formations in this part of the Wild Atlantic Way” – Ruth Wood.
