At the Maahs Alter - Kilbaha Gallery put Kaye Maahs in focus

We regularly genuflect at the ‘Maahs’ Alter.

Only a few short years after we opened the gallery, did we stumble across the work of artist Kaye Maahs – and we haven’t looked back since!

Ailish had attended an art exhibition in Culturlann Sweeney Kilkee, a beautiful nearby library and centre for the arts. She picked up a piece at the exhibition and returned to the gallery all excited about this particular artist’s work. It was Kaye’s work.

And she was right to have been excited! Kaye’s natural style was one of confidence, of freedom, of loose interpretations, extraordinary talent and huge competency; of deliberate strokes and impeccable colour choices.

Having been working and exhibiting her art since the early noughties, Kaye had truly found her sweet spot in terms of own style and in truly understanding what made her tick. It was clear, that as an artist, she was now, pursuing this with determination and gusto. We approached Kaye after that (which we think was around 2017/18) and the rest is history, so they say! We have been happily working together since then.

Outside of the fact that we are huge fans of her work, Kaye’s bubbly personality, infectious enthusiasm and massive heart, make her a most delightful person to work with. (Not to mention the fact that her gorgeous dad has also found a very special place in our hearts!)

Having been invited to exhibit at the Royal Hibernian Academy’s annual show, every year for the best part of the last decade, and most recently, in 2024 she was also selected to exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London, Kaye’s trajectory continues in an consistently upward manner. She has won NUMEROUS awards, residencies and bursaries during her career so far, however a real feather in her cap, was to be chosen for the Alex Bradley Award as part of the 2024 RHA exhibition for artists at this mid stage in their careers.

Her most recent exhibition, a journey in oils, through the varying landscapes of Iceland, ran in the fabulous Claremorris Gallery, from mid Sept to Oct 5th of last year.
