This piece is reminiscent of Japanese style flower paintings, where one often saw beautiful blossoms, carefully handpainted onto a black canvas or board. The contrast between the vibrant colours of the flower and the dark background meant the paintings were vivid and bright and striking. It also meant the detail of the painting would be even clearer for scrutinising. Here Diana Marshall has achieved this with ease. A stunning painting, quite large at 50cm x 50cm and incredibly striking – the contrast of this beautiful pink blossom against the dark background is intriguing and beautiful. Her total competency is evident.
