Among the effects of a global pandemic, it seems, is the refocusing of the global lens on the importance of those people and places in all our lives that perhaps were being overlooked in favour of work and other things. Those cherished moments with grandparents, have, now, never been so important as we find ourselves keeping them at arms length for their own safety. Hopefully soon, we will all get to hug and spend time with each other in the ways we previously took for granted.
Aideen Monaghan, an artist from the West of Ireland, paints these snapshots in time – thus providing the kind of artwork that becomes of archival importance – what people did, what people wore and how people interacted etc.  This particular snapshot ‘Grandad’ (full personal title of Grandad & Freya), highlights the beauty and preciousness of those moments in time.
